How To Use
A simple tool for making small word quizzes, which can be saved, printed and even tried without having to print out.
On the first screen click on either the Make Or Edit A Word Quiz or Try A Saved Word Quiz button depending on whether you want to make or edit existing puzzles or try one already made.
Make Or Edit A Word Quiz
On the main edit screen you will see a grid of squares. You will notice that there is one red coloured square which follows your mouse pointer over the grid. If you click on this red square it will lock in place and turn green. This is where your answer will start. To unlock the square simply click it again and it will turn red and follow the mouse pointer again.
With the control square locked (green) simply type in your answers. Typing a letter automatically moves the locked square on one step in the direction of its arrow. Pressing Return/Enter will move the control square to the beginning of the next line, ready for your next answer. You can type over your answers if needed or simply use the space bar to blank them out.
You can add a Title for your game by clicking the Title button at the top of the grid. A small input box will appear where you can type your title. At the bottom of the grid is a similar button for Basic Instructions.
You can make the puzzle more interesting by adding a "blue" column. Each letter that appears in the vertical column could make up an extra answer e.g. the first letter of each answer might make up the name of a famous person. You could then add this in the Basic Instruction box at the bottom of the grid. Right click anywhere in the grid and a small menu will appear where you can choose to hide or show the blue column. You can also move it to a desired position in the grid if you don't want it to be the first letter of each answer.
To add Clues simply type them in the yellow boxes on the left of the screen next to your answers.
Once you have entered all the answers and clues you want to (maximum 18) make sure you save your word quiz by choosing Save this word quiz as.. in the top menu under File (see below for more details). Then you can get the program to replace your answers in the grid with blank squares by selecting Clear Answers in the top menu under Options. You can also select Try this word quiz from the top menu under Try Word Quiz. Either option will automatically clear the answers and remove any unused boxes in the grid. You can then try the quiz or print it out. This can take a few seconds depending on the speed of your processor, so a progress bar will show and then disappear when the job has been completed. You can then copy, print or try your crossword as per the instructions below.
In the top left of each screen is a Cross button to close the program and a Minimise button which will drop the program to your Taskbar so that you can open another program.
